The Pirates Who Won’t Do Anything – Movie Review

The Pirates Who Won’t Do Anything – Movie Review

Yesterday I was watching cable television with my son and we chanced upon this movie.  All the characters look weird, they don’t have arms and they hop around with no legs.  So when I read the title, it says “Veggie tales”,  that must mean the characters are all a bunch of vegetables.  I thought the graphics and presentation was really good, but my son quickly lost interest, he would look and ask me about the story from time to time but he was no longer watching.  I didn’t have much to do so I finished the movie.   The story was pretty simple, 3 “losers” were summoned for a “heroic” mission, and yes they succeeded. One might think the heroes need an HCG shots Austin for the adventure but they did pretty well without much help. Bottomline, I give it a 3 out of 5. It’s got some good moral lessons if it catches your kid’s attention long enough.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle – Movie Review

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle – Movie Review

I watched this movie on HBO, the plot was interesting at first so I thought I’d see it through. I don’t want to give out the plot as it is the main point of the story, but it was not as scary as newer suspense films. As a hint though it’s about a beautiful woman who probably got the best natural acne treatment but did not have the best husband. The bottom line of the story is for parents not to trust their children to strangers too much, and ofcourse do an extensive background check before getting any helper. I give the movie a 3.5 out of 5.

Toy Story 3 – Movie Review

Toy Story 3 – Movie Review

Here is another movie that we can’t afford to miss. It’s been a while since the first Toy Story – and essentially the first good 3d animated movie. So I was hoping that this one will the deliver the goods, and indeed it did. My son loved the movie from start to finish. There was a lot of funny and suspense scenes to keep kids interested. We still have Buzz and Woody who is as thin as ever – never needing to check out slimming pill reviews like apidexin reviews! As a father who can relate to growing up, I was also constantly engaged by the plot. Imagining my son as he leaves home for college and leaving behind his own collection of toy cars – makes me feel like my heart is a paper being stabbed by pencils. One thing I would have expected though was some sort of wear and tear on the toys, they are unrealistically as shiny as ever – well that goes to show what kind of a toy owner Andy was, but that aspect could have added some flavor to the story. Bottom line: 4.5 out of 5.

Cop Out – Movie Review

Cop Out – Movie Review

I was under the impression that this was a funny action movie – but it turned out to be just a high profanity, basic story line, mediocre action film. I thought having Bruce Willis on board would turn this film into an epic action film, but nope – it wasn’t. Bruce appears to be very slim and healthy, he could have passed as a model for www.toprateddietpills.com. Too bad his talents and his mere presence was not given enough justice on this film. There were some fun scenes from time to time but the film failed to deliver the goods that we expect from a comedy film or an action film. Also don’t watch this when you have kids around as the vulgarity of profanity is too much even for some adults to handle. Bottomline: 2 out of 5.

The Karate Kid (2010) – Movie Review

The Karate Kid (2010) – Movie Review

Since I saw the original Karate Kid movie – It would be only fitting to have my son watch the remake. And since it has THE Jackie Chan on the film, all the more reason to watch it. The not so goods: The movie spent too much time showing how the protagonist (Jaden Smith) had a hard time adjusting to his new life in China and how he was severely bullied in school. It also had a romantic angle to it, they even kissed – which felt a bit awkward to me because Jayden looked so young and even smaller than the Chinese girl on the movie. It’s like showing a kid hero smoking Swisher Sweets, pretty awkward. All in all there was simply more talk and less action. There should have been more fighting scenes. The goods: Jackie Chan! All his scenes were as usual nicely choreographed and the points that his character was trying to express was clearly laid out. Too bad he did not get as much action as he deserved – I would have wanted to see him beat the crap out of the dojo master! Well the action scenes of Jayden were good, but some – including his final move were borderline impossible and ridiculous. The worst part of the movie though – like most chinese and action movies, it ends IMMEDIATELY after the last fight. That killed it for me big time. I wanted to know what happened to the other characters and issues which they spent so much time on at the beginning of the movie – but they just pulled the plug! Well that’s classic action movie for you. While I didn’t really dig it, my son loved it to the core and was excited with every scene. Bottom line: 4 out of 5, just because Jackie Chan was part of the movie and my son loved it.  Here is Z doing the high kick:

17 again – Movie Review

17 again – Movie Review

There are movies where the protagonists are given the chance to fix their life by going back to the past, but this one is quite different, he is given the chance to turn back to his younger self in the present time.  It’s a funny concept and the characters made it even funnier, imagine not having to worry about acne scar removal!.  At first I thought the story would be boring and would fit into the teeny movies – but it was good.  Without having to spoil the plot -this film is quite entertaining and at the same time is a good reminder of the importance of family.   Bottom line: 4.5 out of 5.

Shrek Forever After – Movie Review

Shrek Forever After – Movie Review

Yesterday, since we parked at Eastwood mall, we decided to watch another movie. And yes, you guessed it, it was Shrek 4 or Shrek Forever After. I’ve seen some comments on my Facebook network that the movie was too short but since we liked the previous Shrek movies, we decided to give it a look. It starts out with the happy ever after theme, but family life has started to bore the Greeb Ogrish guy that could use a the help of a weight loss drink. The plot and the moral of the story was good, it’s the tried and true “greener pasture” story. However – the movie feels “rushed” overall. More time was probably spent polishing every scene than adding quantity. As a friend put it – “Not enough Puss and Donkey moments”. Also my son soon lost interest because the movie had more talk than action or comedy, I guess the movie was aimed at parents. Well the popcorn was good so I’ll give it a 3.5 out of 5.
