Yesterday we ate lunch at Tokyo Tokyo. Before you read my review, you have to understand where I am coming from, I am a Huge fan of Japanese food. When I was 17, my parents ran a Japanese Restaurant of our own and I helped prepare and serve food for our customers. Ofcourse I got to taste everything! Our specialty was the Okonomiyaki or what we fondly called the Japanese Pizza – which I dearly miss. The cooking back then was first class – mostly because our cook, which is also the owner and my step father – is a genuine Japanese. Having tried the real thing, I must say that Tokyo Tokyo, is no longer true to the Japanese taste and has since been “Filipinized”. I guess it helped with their commercial success, but to people like myself who crave for real Japanese taste – it’s a let down. Another let down is the fact that Tokyo Tokyo Megamall has a number of seats that are “out of order” and the floor, tables and walls are dirty – it looks more like Jollibee near a wet market! The Japanese are not only known for their cooking, they are also known for their orderliness and cleanliness, Tokyo tokyo should always be clean and tidy… Oh well, in fairness the “Filipinized” sauce for the Tonkatsu was good, and the Red Iced Tea – that is most awesome, I wish they would sell that as a powder mix in groceries. Overall the meal was OK but no where near the cooking of my Step Father. I’ll rate it at 3 out of 5.
Read MoreGonuts Donuts Halo Halo – Review
Last week while doing our usual round at Toy Kingdom, I saw an ad by Gonuts Donuts saying that they have a new product available: The summer favorite “Halo Halo”. The store was clean and beautiful, even the outdoor rugs were nice. The donuts are as delectable as they ever was – but I was not after any of that, I want to see, smell and taste how their new “Pastillas” flavored halo halo. When I placed the order I was surprised that you will have to pay for the ice cream scoop, oh well misleading ads are everywhere and acceptable now… so I just went along and waited. When I got it, I wasn’t really impressed at the way it looks, but the taste and the Pastillas ice cream scoop made my day. It was really good. The downside though is that there aren’t many of the expected ingredients on it. So when I was about 1/4th through with the Halo Halo, my son had to go to the CR so I trustedly left my Halo Halo on the table. When I got back, I saw it empty… and the culprit is my wife! She loved it and gave the same negatives as I did. Oh well, I’ll try it some more next time. I’ll give it a 4 out of 5.
