Ear drum breaking screams of fans, not even rock concerts here could beat the noise at Jason Mraz recent concert in Manila.

I waited for my excitement to die down before I attempted to write an objective review of Jason Mraz concert in Manila last October. Looking back, we truly enjoyed the concert, fan or no fan, you will simply be amazed at Jason Mraz’s sheer vocal prowess and musical talent. Jason and Toca confidently confronted thousands of screaming fans that filled the gigantic Araneta Colliseum.

Jason and Toca sang their hearts out, they sang all of my favorites including Butterfly and Dynamo of volition from Jason’s latest album. The concert was a major success, save for a few minor qualms. Most of my complaints will fall under technical difficulties or venue related problems.

First complaint is the lousy sound system. There was too much echo and there was not enough power to fill the stadium. Although as a fan, I am familiar with his lyrics, but newbies will probably have a hard time understanding what Jason was singing about. Next complaint is the decision to do an acoustic set at a giant venue like Araneta. Jason should have gotten himself a full band to back him up complete with sax and wind instruments – it would have been much more fun.

Still acoustic sets have that feeling of intimacy which die hard fans probably preferred, sadly these die hard fans only know Jason’s popular songs like You and I both, I’m yours and Lucky. Overall it was a great concert experience and was well worth the dread of traffic and the hard time we had parking our car.

John Mayer in Manila

I recently saw the news paper ad that says John Mayer’s concert will be pushing through on October 1, 2010. It also mentioned that Aiza Siguerra will be the front act and that the show will start at 8pm. If you are following my blogs you would know that we bought VIP tickets a few months back but we already refunded it because the concert was delayed. While thinking about chondroitin glucosamine msm which may help my lola, I got the good news from my friend, this time around, I will be given SPONSOR passes! Seats are better than VIP and it’s F R E E! Now aside from waiting for the audition results at the end of the month, I also look forward to this concert and see one of the best guitar players alive today in live in concert.

John Mayer in Manila – Canceled

I was hearing rumors that the much anticipated concert will be canceled if not postponed or moved to October. I didn’t want to believe it, but now – after checking John Mayer’s website, I am convinced that the rumor is right. On the tour page of his website, they removed the Manila schedule for May 16, and instead Manila was moved to the bottom of the page – scheduled for October 1st! This is a sad day for me… specially since we have our VIP tickets already. I was even checking out www.sleepingpillreviews.net because I was having a hard time sleeping with the excitement. But looks like it will not come to pass. I’ll just be contacting Channel V for confirmation and hopefully get my refund as soon as possible. Then, I’ll probably just buy that Martin DX1e guitar that I have been hunting for instead. At least that is a good thing…

The real cost of the John Mayer VIP tickets

My wife and I have been planning to travel somewhere for years now. We were discussing between going abroad or going to a famous vacation spot here. Could it be Hongkong or Singapore? Or maybe go to Boracay or Baguio City? If we were in the US, maybe we could checkout used travel trailers for a different experience in travelling. Bottomline is we just want to do something special. However since my wife bought those expensive John Mayer VIP tickets, I guess our travel / vacation was sacrificed and will have to wait. That is why I was surprised that she bought the tickets, because I was thinking she’d either get something for herself, or she’s saving up for a good vacation / travel. To be honest I would have preferred to use the money for a vacation myself – but that’s just because I’m stingy… I am grateful for having a wife that can make tough decisions haha. I was thinking of surprising her by using my Google Adsense earnings, but she already warned me not to. Oh well I hope John Mayer is not coming again next summer. Hehe.

I have been looking forward to John Mayer’s concert. But being the thrifty me, I was having second thoughts on getting any good seat tickets. My wife surprised me yesterday, that she bought 2 tickets for the best seats (VIP). Not only that but she got the first available seat after the sponsors, she was the first one in line when the tickets went on sale at Channel V’s office. When she told me that and showed me the ticket, I couldn’t believe it. All the time I thought she was planning to buy a new laptop for herself with her online income, but instead she opted to spend it on the ticket. Ofcourse it made my day, and right now I am so excited to get to the concert with her and experience something that only a few filipino’s could. That is great music from the main man live – John Mayer.

Here is a picture that shows the ticket prices for the upcoming John Mayer concert here in Manila on May 16, 2010. And yes, it came as a shock to most fans because the tickets are very expensive – the other concerts are around 25% cheaper. I am now left with a very difficult choice, get the VIP or Gold tickets or buy a new guitar. This is a hard pill to swallow for me, and I think I’ll need an acne vitamin to get me through this decision without a pimple on my face.

Yes it’s true, John Mayer is indeed coming to Manila. You can see the details here found on his website. Let me quote from his site:

“We are excited to announce shows for the first time ever in the Philippines and Spain! Following a two-night stand in Japan, the Battle Studies World Tour will travel to Manila, Philippines for a concert at SM MOA on May 16th. Ticketing information will be announced as it is available on the TOUR page.”

Now this is one event I am sure every musician will be excited about. I hope I can get good seats
