Audition for the Church’s Band

I had been researching for a comprehensive noxycut review when I remembered I need to sign up for our church’s orientation. Our church is looking for band members and other type of volunteers and since I’ve been missing playing at church I decided to sign up. The orientation went well and there’s going to be an audition next week. I hope I pass the audition so I can continue serving the Lord through my music.

Jeff Beck

I’m a regular at musician’s online message boards. And I get to learn and see a lot of new things everyday. Here’s a stunning example, Jeff Beck! I wish there was a multivitamin that could turn my playing into something as awesome as his! He is known to try out a lot of different things and you can see him make some mistakes from time to time – but that is what makes him Jeff Beck! Unafraid of the unknown – making music that is all his own. There are a lot of guitar players out there that try to mimic some guitar hero that they have, but you will have a hard time finding guys that mimic Jeff Beck – because it simply is not feasible, his sound is too personal for anyone to make it work as their own. Anyway enough talk, see him in action:

Lifelines Cover

Here is a quick cover I made of “Lifelines”. This is an unreleased song by John Mayer, sang around 1999 – so the song is actually really old but he has not included it on any of his studio albums, hence the term unreleased. The song has a nice groove and has been a favorite of mine way back. A fitting song to cover using my new found friend “Martina”. Good thing the video was a bit blurry because this was taken before we get another facial to clean out those pesky blackheads. Enjoy music – enjoy life!

G.A.S. – Gear Acquisition Syndrome

Most musicians are aware of the dreaded 3 letter ackronym and what it means. Gear acquisition syndrome is in layman’s term – the constant urge to buy gear. Recently I have had my own share of GAS – which is why I just got myself a Martin DCX1E. And now GAS is attacking again – I’m salivating over the new Zoom G2.1Nu. Reading from online reviews – and from the specs – that is definitely the pedal for me. I’m not into having too much gear – and have been a modest user of multieffects. I am a firm believer that pedals should just be considered as tools – and that my tone will still be there without my pedals. So the G2.1Nu which is small, easy to carry but full of features is the ultimate pedal for me. Oh well need to look at my online credit report to see if I could use my card for this one. And ofcourse I also have my loving wife’s approval to ask for… good luck to me

John Mayer in Manila – Canceled

I was hearing rumors that the much anticipated concert will be canceled if not postponed or moved to October. I didn’t want to believe it, but now – after checking John Mayer’s website, I am convinced that the rumor is right. On the tour page of his website, they removed the Manila schedule for May 16, and instead Manila was moved to the bottom of the page – scheduled for October 1st! This is a sad day for me… specially since we have our VIP tickets already. I was even checking out www.sleepingpillreviews.net because I was having a hard time sleeping with the excitement. But looks like it will not come to pass. I’ll just be contacting Channel V for confirmation and hopefully get my refund as soon as possible. Then, I’ll probably just buy that Martin DX1e guitar that I have been hunting for instead. At least that is a good thing…

Another Kind of Green

Yesterday I spent almost the whole day just playing the guitar and recording videos and audios. Time well spent I should say . Good thing the upcoming John Mayer concert is still giving me some sleep, if not I’ll have to consider good acne pills if I want to make videos. Anyway here is one of the videos I was able to record yesterday, it’s a cover of one of John Mayer’s song, just in time for his concert!

This is one of Jason Mraz’ finest song… well everything he makes is awesome so that is an understatement… Anyway I am watching this version of Beautiful mess while I was looking at vacant New York jobs. This song is all about the glory of having a typical relationship, where there is pain and pleasure, love and hate. It stresses the most important fact in relationships – that inspite of everything – “We’re still here”. That’s the beauty in all the mess – that we’re still here.

My youtube video entitled Bold as Love was recently featured in a local Radio Station’s web site. It was a few months ago when I sent my video to them and I totally forgot about it. Then I received an email from them telling me my video was chosen. I still remember the morning I took it. It was early in the morning and I was the first to get up. I was hoping to get some quiet time so I can shoot a video but my little son woke up just when I was about to start. He wanted to sit with me and although I was hesitant at first (I feared he would interrupt me in the middle of my song) I finally agreed. It was the best decision I’ve ever made because the result was a hit not only to me and my wife but also to my YouTube followers.

There’s no cash prize involved, but at least a few more people would get to see this vid. Next time, when I learn more about video making, I’ll upload a more professional looking video and we’ll see if it gets featured. Thanks to RX 93.1. Check out their website at rx931.com

“Humanap ka ng panget” – Tagalized?

I have high respects for the man, who doesn’t know Andrew E? His songs are a part of my childhood, and I’m sure most of the people would say the same. It is sad to see though that the famous song’s lyrics is actually just a “Tagalized” version of “Find an Ugly Woman” by Cash Money Marvelous. I’m not sure if he claimed otherwise but I do remember finding the idea funny and original – but looks like it is not. See and hear for yourself and you be the judge.
