Battle Studies Album Review

I will be quoting myself since I have reviewed this on my other blog:

“As much as everyone else, I’m very excited to hear the new studio album of John Mayer, Battle Studies. I’ve been a fan of his work, but I’m one of the few who prefers his older albums and would rate Room for Squares as his best work. For me, that album has the most memorable hooks, great songwriting and most importantly – songs that are “relatable” – if there is such a word.

So far, I’ve heard the tracks that John Mayer prereleased as videos: “Who Says” and “Heartbreak Warfare”. Both songs are great but not as climatic as I hoped it was – Who says sounds like a lost track from Continuum, while Heartbreak Warfare has that Heavier Things vibe.

Both are of course good, don’t get me wrong but it seems like there is a shortage on topics to sing about – and singing about his “rockstar” self (Who Says) just doesn’t cut through to normal human beings like myself. In fairness – it’s still an honest song, and I can only imagine how it is to want to be “Stoned”. Heartbreak warfare on the other hand has some tasty hooks, but lacks on the “guitar” aspect (Can’t blame me for wanting more guitar after hearing John Mayer Trio :P ).

Much like Continuum, I better appreciate his songs AFTER seeing him play the song live, so probably my take on the two songs will change after a few weeks. Can’t wait to hear the new album to see where John Mayer currently stands musically. :)

To add, my current favorite tracks of this album are: Assasin and Edge of Desire :) . I’m a JM fan so I have to rate this 6 out of 5.

John Mayer is coming to MOA

Yes it’s true, John Mayer is indeed coming to Manila. You can see the details here found on his website.  Let me quote from his site:

“We are excited to announce shows for the first time ever in the Philippines and Spain! Following a two-night stand in Japan, the Battle Studies World Tour will travel to Manila, Philippines for a concert at SM MOA on May 16th. Ticketing information will be announced as it is available on the TOUR page.”

Now this is one event I am sure every musician will be excited about.  I hope I can get good seats :)

Pilipinas Got Talent

I am not a fan of Pilipinas Got Talent. I honestly think they hurt more than they help, and the show has more awkward and unpleasant moments than good. But there are really some performance that is worth mentioning. Like the one below:

“Humanap ka ng panget” – Tagalized?

I have high respects for the man, who doesn’t know Andrew E?  His songs are a part of my childhood, and I’m sure most of the people would say the same.  It is sad to see though that the famous song’s lyrics is actually just a “Tagalized” version of “Find an Ugly Woman” by Cash Money Marvelous. I’m not sure if he claimed otherwise but I do remember finding the idea funny and original – but looks like it is not. See and hear for yourself and you be the judge.

Bong Revilla?

Found this interesting video floating in Facebook and blogs. Is this really the voice of Bong Revilla? You be the judge.

John Mayer’s Napalm

John Mayer’s Playboy interview is so hilarious. Now everyone wants to know the napalm definition. If you’re still not in the know then I’m going to give you the scoop. Johm Mayer gave a kiss-and-tell interview at Playboy. The interview was a lengthy one and he revealed more than we wish to know. I’m sure his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Simpson, is now cringing in embarrassment because of what he revealed. In his no-holds barred interview he said that Jessica Simpson was like “sexual napalm.”

Here’s an excerpt of John Mayer’s controversial interview.

“That girl, for me, is [an illegal substance]. And [such substances] aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like [one such substance] to me… [In bed] it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm…

John also revealed his soft side – sort of. Apparently, for him his other ex, Jennifer Aniston, is the one that got away and he still has feelings for her. I don’t know if Jennifer would be touched though because the way he said it made you want to slap him instead of kissing him. Can’t wait for Jen’s reaction on this and of course, Jessica’s as well.

According to a fan who had the privilege to visit him while he was performing for his last tour, Jackson was so unbelievably skinny when she went off to hug him. He spent his last night performing at Staples Center in Los Angeles for his upcoming London O2 concert.

The King of Pop is one of the most talented singer/performer and gained worldwide acclaim for his songs and dance moves. However in his latter years he was much criticised and made fun of because of his child molestation cases and his ever so changing appearance. He earned millions of dollars from his performances but it was said that he lost it and was in huge debt before his death. He was supposed to make a comeback concert which added to his stress and which close to him claim contributed to his death.
