Visiting Baclayon Church is the norm for tourists in Bohol. It is one of the oldest churches in the country and some even say that it is actually the oldest because it was near the island of Bohol where the Spaniards first made friends with Filipino locals.

Because of its historical significance, age and its construction technique (eggs!) – you expect it to be something really grand. But when you get there, you will realize that it might just be over hyped. Its just a typical Catholic church that is sadly not properly cared for. Even some of the smaller local churches here in Metro Manila seem more impressive than Baclayon. Disappointment aside, it is still a privilege to walk on the very church where ancient Filipino’s probably first heard of Jesus.

The entrance to the church is free, there is also a museum that doesn’t seem to attract many of the tourists ourselves included because of how the people in-charge seem to not care at inviting people and explaining what they have available. With better management, they can probably still turn the Baclayon Church into something better that befits its historical significance.
