Don Alder was declared as the winner of Guitar Idol III Live Final. Although he did well and I would never even match half of what he did, I felt that his performance that night was a bit sub par, it was not clean and sounded more like an unnecessary exhibition rather than music.
I’m just saying that there are other acoustic guitar players that deserve that title over Don, I would have even preferred the other acoustic performance during the live final. It was more melodic and clean. Maybe the song appealed more when watched live which could be the case, but I’d give my vote to Jon Gomm if he joined. Anyway all of the finalists are already winners so instead of sulking up and just enjoy the Guitar Idol III live final videos.
I was at the show and disagree with you. I saw all the players I also watched this video and it does sound sloppy however the sound in this video is very direct sounding so wonder if that has something to do with it, coming out of the PA his sound was massive and he sounded very clean. I also spoke to most of the players all very cool guys. One guy didnt even have monitors when he played. When I spoke to Alder I asked about the tape on his guitar and he told me he was having a hard time playing it and with the sound and keeping it in tune he said the guitar got severely damaged and the top had totally lifted so he put on duct tape to hold it together So I give him credit for just that. The other acoustic guy was Jamal and he did play beautiful but I felt if was out of place as it was like listening to new age music he played with his eyes closed for the most part so felt he should have been in a coffee shop or somethig not at a rock show. Alder totally rocked it on just an acoustic guitar. The judges were all very respected players and there not dummies I agreed with them from what I heard live. Alders video doesnt represent what I heard live.
Jamal did play beautifully but he was out of place in this contest perhaps the wrong contest for him He came to a rock party dressed in a halloween costume so to speak, he shouldnt have even been there. I could say the same for Alder but he did indeed rock out and put on a show with just an acoustic guitar major kudos for that.
