You can easily group Colombiana with stereo typical action films where the main protagonist is a super tough, gravity defying, slim and sexy female. The plot of the movie revolves around a typical vengeance story. The typical gangster bad guys were built up right at the start as the movie opened with the bad guys killing the protagonists’ family. The protagonist escapes, grows up and executes her revenge on the offending group. That is how simple the story is, so obviously that is not a strong point of the movie.
What you might find entertaining though are the action scenes. The movie shows some of the protagonists attack on the villains. The attack scenarios have a few things in common, they are impossibly hard, unbelievable, required unprecedented luck and did I say impossible? The protagonist was able to infiltrate and escape from a fortified jail and she easily gets in and out of fortified gangster hideouts. She dodged countless attacks and bullets, outwitted CIA and beat up big and bulky villains. Ironically, she was identified in the movie just because her boyfriend took a photo of her, to the bewilderment of the CIA.
At least there are some semi unique concepts shown on the movie. The first one was when she had one of the villains eaten by pet sharks. The final villain, after doing a lot of hardwork and action, was disappointingly bitten by the protagonist’s dogs. The brainless mastermind escaped in a van where obedient dogs where hiding in the Van Shelving, giving the movie a silly and pointless climax.
To be fair, the actress – Zoë Saldana, did the main role extremely well, and the action scenes are good, these are the only reasons I did not give this film a zero. The story is trying to be believable while it implemented unbelievable antics, which results in confusion, disappointment and unsatisfactory movie experience. I give it a 2 out of 5.
I haven’t seen the movie to judge it but it seems like it can be fairly good. You didn’t give to much detail which I’m thankful for. I was actually told by some co-worker of mine at DISH that it was a really good movie. I just had to check reviews before I believed it was true. I have found that everyone loves Zoe Saldana but not so much of the movie. That breaks my heart but I’m really happy that I got the Blockbuster Movie Pass, so I don’t have to waste money in the theater. With the Blockbuster Movie Pass I can get new movies in the mail 28 days before anywhere else. So I’m not missing too much. You should definitely get the Blockbuster Movie Pass if you don’t want to waste money in the theaters. I hope I love the movie and it isn’t as bad as you say. Don’t for get to check the Blockbuster Movie Pass with DISH though!
